What is TCM Cupping
Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese medicine practice dating back to 1550 B.C. It is a highly effective alternative medicine therapy focused on pain management, reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and relieving muscle tension. This time-honoured treatment promotes deep relaxation and enhances the body's natural healing process, making it a popular choice for those seeking holistic well-being.
How Does TCM Cupping Work?

TCM Cupping works by restoring the balance of Qi (气) in the body, promoting healthy blood circulation, and easing muscle stiffness. The therapy involves placing specialised cups on the skin, typically on the back, shoulders, arms, stomach, or legs. These cups create suction, gently pulling the skin upward and stimulating the underlying tissues.
The benefits of TCM Cupping include:
- Improved circulation for faster healing and recovery
- Reduced muscle tension and stiffness
- Detoxification by stimulating lymphatic drainage
- Relief from chronic pain and inflammation
- Stress and fatigue reduction
Cupping therapy is often combined with Acupuncture to enhance its effectiveness by further aligning the flow of Qi in the body, leading to improved overall health and well-being.

This technique uses suction-only therapy, where cups are placed on specific areas of the body to create negative pressure, promoting blood circulation, relieving muscle tension, and stimulating Qi flow.
During sliding cupping, a thin layer of oil is applied to the skin before placing the cups, allowing them to glide smoothly over the body. This enhances circulation, loosens tight muscles, and provides a deep, massage-like effect.
